Gluten Free Seeded Bread with Waitrose TV

June 19, 2014

Gluten free baking has always intrigued me and I’m increasingly amazed at how much it’s come on since the days of my youth. I had a friend who was a coeliac at school and I always remember looking on with pity at her dry as sawdust and rock hard prescription bread she had no choice but to eat. Nowadays virtually everywhere stocks gluten free breads and for the home baker there’s an ever expanding wealth of gluten and wheat free ingredients and flours to experiment with making your own. Thanks heavens!

Whilst we’re lucky enough not to have any wheat or gluten allergies here at Eat Your Veg HQ I’m a regular reader of several gluten free blogs and am keen to get busy with my own free from baking soon. Here’s a great wee vid from fellow food blogger Grace Cheetham that she made for Waitrose TV. Grace demonstrates quite how effortless a homemade gluten free loaf can be, and with no need to knead, pardon the pun, ridiculously quick too!. Do bob by the Waitrose TV channel on the Waitrose site for plenty more excellent short foodie vids.

I’ve recently been rekindling my love for Waitrose, delighting in the opening of a Hereford store for the first time a few weeks ago.  Would you believe it’s less than a ten minute drive away from our new surroundings in rural Herefordshire, yipppppeeee!. No one was more enthusistic about the venture than me I can tell you. Before we moved to France the last three houses I lived at in Richmond and Kingston upon Thames and Harrogate in North Yorkshire were all within a few short minutes walk of a Waitrose store. It naturally became my go to shop for deli goodies and cheese, good bread, wine and spirits and various specialist foodie supplies. Sometimes even a top drawer ready meal if I was feeling lazy. And their Essentials range is most impressive and genuinely price competitive with the other supermarkets.

Jacques and I have had a few Friday afternoon trips to the Hereford Waitrose over the last few weeks. My mini foodie in the making loves nothing more than a good gawp at the fish, deli and cheese counters followed by a kids lunch box in the cafe.  I fear he may become their most loyal customer, and expensive to boot!  Here’s a few pics I took on my Samsung S4 phone shortly after the store opened in May.

A TRULY fabulous and interesting post Lou and I always LOVE your photo collages too……I too am a big fan of Waitrose. When I lived in Hereford there was only 2 large supermarkets as I remember, so lucky you now! Karen

Thanks so much Karen. Well things have certainly changed since your time here, there’s now an Asda, 2 x Tesco’s, Sainsburys, Morrisons, lots of Co-Ops and now a Waitrose. Totally spoilt for choice.

I adore Waitrose and was very very pleased when they opened up a branch very near me. You know what good quality food you are getting when you shop there – many of my pantry staples are got from their essentials range. Seems like your kid has the Waitrose love thing too.

I shall definitely check out the Waitrose TV channel, it sounds great. My nearest Waitrose is only a stones throw away from my house so I shop there regularly. I spend a lot of time checking out their kitchen ware as well I love it. Shopping at Waitrose has become even better with their loyalty card, free coffee and papers and recently I joined their club so I get free cake once a month. Now you can’t ask more than that.

Ooh I thought that was you in the video to start with. Love all the photos of Jaques making his presence felt in Waitrose 😉 I haven’t tried making gluten free bread yet, it’s on my list.
