J F & Me Edited.jpgAbout Eat Your Veg!

Hi folks and welcome to Eat Your Veg,

I’m Louisa, a passionate foodie and hectic single Mummy living in rural Herefordshire with The Monsters. Francesca’s six going on sixteen and with all the attitude, loves horses, purple and boys. Master Jacques is newly five and my resident sous chef, loves food, tractors, bugs and irritating his big sis. Come join us on our foodie adventures to make, bake and eat more of life’s good stuff.

Eat Your Veg was born out of a devotion to feed my monsters the healthy food they deserve, and to show other parents that good food can be made quickly, easily and cheaply. And obviously with lots of veggies involved!. Name me a parent who doesn’t say “eat your veg” on an over-zealous basis, I know I certainly do. My site is packed full of better-for-you recipes with a heavy use of veggies, fruits and wholegrains, better fats and less refined sugars.

I develop recipes for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and bigger kids with lots of sit-down together family-friendly meals too. Whilst it’s sometimes necessary and practical to make different foods for smaller children I believe in families eating together as regularly and from as early an age as possible. Not only does dining together help develop budding taste buds and social skills but it’s proven that children eat more fruit and vegetables in this way. Notwithstanding the reduced food prep time!.

Life’s hectic enough with children and I want to demonstrate eating well is easily achievable in small time frames. Many of my recipes are quickie post-school and work Mid-Week Wonders. And for when life isn’t in the fast lane you’ll find plenty of Weekend Slowies to take a little more time over. I love to get my children involved in the kitchen too, partly because I spend so much time in there myself and partly out of a deep-rooted desire to nurture their interest and knowledge of food. So you’ll find lots of tips and fun recipes for cooking and sweet and savoury baking with children too.

Being a huge advocate of seasonality (from having grown my own organic veggies for the previous three years at Chez Foti) my recipes are seasonal, budget friendly and use easily obtainable ingredients which are local and sustainable as far as possible. You’ll find no fancy dining recipes here! Just honest, wholesome and nutritious family fodder. Whilst there’s a big emphasis on cooking and baking with veggies, my food isn’t exclusively vegetarian and there’re well sourced and reared fish and meat recipes too. Plus healthier puddings, cakes and snacks with more of the good stuff and less of the nasties.

I also work in local primary schools running curriculum based healthy cooking from scratch sessions with Reception through to Year 6 children. I’ve covered anything from healthy lunchboxes, veggie and fruit familiarity sessions to hands on homemade Pasta Sauce, Mexican Burritos, Bread Tarts or Chocolate & Beetroot Brownies and lots and lots more in between. I can honestly say I’ve loved each and every session and it’s the most rewarding, and fun, work I’ve ever undertaken!.

Thanks for dropping by and do stay with us for the journey,
